Philadelphia Police Department Joins Pinterest

By Chelsea Karnash

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – While Pinterest users are busy pinning dinner recipes and instructions for DIY holiday décor, the Philadelphia Police Department is pinning perps.

In its latest efforts to utilize social media to catch criminals, the police department has joined Pinterest. But instead of dream houses and workout regimens, the department's boards are full of mugshots, handily divided up by division.

Police made the announcement they'd joined the social media bigwig over Twitter on Monday, posting "PhillyPolice is now on #Pinterest. We have a board for your section of the city," with a link.

Recently, CBSPhilly.com has reported several instances of the Philadelphia Police Department making arrests with the help of social media (see previous story). The department also has Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages that it posts to regularly.

In addition to mugshots, the PPD's Pinterest page also features boards for "Cops in the Community," "Safety and Prevention" and "Inside the PPD." So far, the page has 28 followers.
