Camden Sets Record With 59th Murder This Year

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) – The city of Camden, once dubbed the 2nd most dangerous city in America, set a grim record on Friday. The city recorded its 59th murder, breaking the previous record of 58 in 1995.

The latest murder took place at about 11:15 a.m. in the 1600 block of Independence Road in the city's Fairview section.

Investigators said an unidentified male was shot to death while sitting in the driver side of a black Pontiac.

According to police, a short black male wearing a brown hoodie was seen running from the scene.

The city of Camden had 52 murders in 2011.

A 2011 report from the CQ Press City Crime Rankings labeled Camden as the nation's 2nd most dangerous city.
