Fake Utility Worker Steals Cash And Jewelry From Elderly Evesham Woman

EVESHAM, NJ (CBS) – A man posing as a utility worker reportedly stole from an elderly woman in Evesham Township.

Around 3:21 p.m. on Wednesday, the Evesham Police Department responded to a residence in the unit block of N Locust Avenue for a reported theft.

An investigation determined that a suspect knocked on the 82-year-old victim's door and identified himself as a utility worker. He also said the victim's water was contaminated, and the woman let him into the house to conduct an inspection.

Once the man was inside the house, the victim heard him walking around the master bedroom while the bathroom water was still running and became suspicious. The woman asked the man to leave, and he told her to leave the water running and that he'd return later to check on it.

Once the suspect exited the house, the victim discovered that cash and jewelry was missing from her bedroom. The Evesham Township Municipal Utilities Authority was contacted and it was confirmed that the suspect did not work for the Township. All Township M.U.A trucks contain highly visible markings and all employees wear clothing with Evesham M.U.A insignias.

The suspect is identified as a light skinned black male in his early 20s. He was seen fleeing in a white pickup truck, but the make and registration could not be determined.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the Evesham Police Department at 856-983-1116, the Confidential Tip Line at 856-983-4699 or email at Facebook@Eveshampd.org. Anonymous tips can be texted to ETPDTIP to 847411.
