Longtime Political Reporter Andrea Mitchell Addresses Phila. Business Group

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- More than 1,500 regional business leaders attended the 212th annual meetng of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce this morning.

Chamber chairman Daniel Fitzpatrick says it's a wonderful opportunity to get so many business leaders together at the same time when they come together for their annual meeting.

"Well, the goal is to rally the business community around the agenda of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, which is to advance the business community so that we're creating jobs in Philadelphia and this region," he tells KYW Newsradio.

The keynote speaker was NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent and former KYW Newsradio reporter Andrea Mitchell.  Fitzpatrick says she was a good choice.

"Obviously we're two weeks from the election, and that's all that's on anyone's mind, so Andrea Mitchell's just such a great political commentator," he says.

"My political roots all began here," Mitchell recalled for the crowd, "and I think back of it often.  I think back to my first convention --  I was going for KYW Radio to the 1972 conventions, covering the nomination of George McGovern."

And Fitzpatrick says the election will have a huge impact on businesses:

"We don't know what the outcome of the election will be, but once those new plans are articulated, then businesses can begin their long-term planning."
