PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A police officer has been struck by a car and injured in the Germantown section of the city.

It happened near Germantown and Woodland Avenues at about 2:30 Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say the officer and his partner were investigating two suspicious males in a black Chrysler when the vehicle attempted to reverse and flee, injuring the officer's right ankle.

The suspects fled, one tried to hide at the Sleep Easy Appliance store on Germantown Avenue according to the store's manager. "He started to hide behind a refrigerator so I pointed him out to police, and they came and took him out," said manager Dawn Stinger.

Both males were taken into custody. The police officer is at Einstein Medical Center in stable condition. He is expected to be treated and released.

The driver faces assault charges. There is no word on the charges against the second suspect.
