Philadelphia Celebrates Mural Arts

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- October is Mural Arts Month in Philadelphia.

Jennifer McCreary with the Philadelphia Mural Arts program says there are a lot of events planned in celebration.

"We have mural tours via trolley; walking tours, bicycle tours," McCreary says. "We have mural dedications, paint days where you can come out and get your hands dirty and help paint a mural and we have exhibit openings as well."

She says for those who want to participate in mural painting, you don't need to worry about the weather or climbing to great heights.

"Some of our artists paint directly on the walls," she says. "But more and more what we're doing is painting using a transfer technique we refer to as parachute cloth -- and it's this seamless fabric and the mural is gridded out like a giant paint-by-number, so anyone can come along and help paint it really helps us enrich the community process."
