Child Struck By Vehicle In Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) - A child was rushed to A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington after being struck by a car on Thursday, according to authorities.

The accident happened a little after 6:30 p.m. near West 4th and Clayton Streets. Investigators say the two-year-old child left his home in attempt to follow his father to the store. An adult nearby saw the child run out of the home but was unsuccessful in preventing him from running into the street.

Police say the boy was struck by a westbound 1997 Buick Century operated by a 52-year-old Wilmington man who did remain at the scene and cooperate with police.

There is no word on the child's condition.

Police say no charges will be filed against the child's parents or the driver. The investigation in ongoing.
