Girl Won't Return To Port Richmond School Where Romney T-Shirt Flap Erupted

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The teenager at the center of the Mitt Romney T-shirt controversy (see previous story) has decided not to return to Charles Carroll High School, in Port Richmond, where she says she was humiliated by a teacher and bullied by fellow students.

She was surrounded by supporters as she returned to Carroll High Tuesday (see related story). But once inside her old high school, 16-year-old Samantha Pawlucy didn't feel comfortable enough to stay.

So, her parents have enlisted the help of Republican State Representative John Taylor to help Sam find a new school.

"Certainly the Pawlucys are interested in charter school options," Taylor said Wednesday, "which is very, very difficult because of the demand for those charter schools. But I've talked to them directly about parochial school options and seeing what can happen there."

The teacher who started the firestorm by criticizing Pawlucy's Romney-Ryan tee-shirt is still out of school, pending an administrative hearing.
