As Deadline Approaches, Philadelphia Officials Work To Get Folks Registered To Vote

By Pat Loeb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Today is the deadline to register to vote in Pennsylvania. The campaigns are out in force, signing up procrastinators.

Mayor Nutter and Councilman Curtis Jones were buttonholing passersby outside City Hall - getting mostly nods and thumbs up, but occasionally the relieved, "I can sign up here?" of the truly deadline-driven.

"I never had a chance to get around to it so today was my chance to get to it before it was too late."

The effort did not yield great numbers of voters but Councilman Jones says the idea was not to leave a single vote on the table.

"We want them to participate, no matter who your selection is, to be a part of the process," said Jones.

You can sign up at your local election board. Also, campaign offices have registration forms that they'll get in for you or you can mail in a registration form as long as it's postmarked by midnight.
