Rite Aid Donates Baby Care Kits To CHOP For 50th Anniversary

By Michelle Durham

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There was a special delivery Thursday for some very deserving families at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Rite Aid officials dropped off 100 baby care kits to CHOP's Special Delivery Unit to celebrate the pharmacy's 50th anniversary.

Dr. Julie Moldenhauer (third from right, front row, in photo) is Medical Director of the Special Delivery Unit explains what is in the bag, "diapers, wipes, baby lotion, baby body wash, baby Motrin."

In other words, everything you reach for in a diaper bag and don't realize you are without until you need it.

She says this gesture means so much to these families, who have travelled from near and far to have their babies, who are known to have a serious congenital abnormality in this unit so they can be treated immediately.

"We know this is going to be a very different. It's going to be atypical because the baby is unhealthy. Our goal is to make it as typical of a birthing process as possible."

And for those couples who are away from their families and might not be able to send someone to the store to stock up on essentials before they check out of the hospital, Dr. Moldnehauer says this bag of supplies will come in handy in the first days after they leave.
