Thieves Caught On Tape Stealing Puppy From Montgomery County Store

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. (CBS) – Police are searching for two suspects who stole a puppy from a Montgomery County pet store.

Investigators say the female suspect distracted the clerk, while the male stuffed the Maltese and Yorkie mix inside his sweatshirt.

The theft happened Tuesday at the Playful Pets store on West Ridge Pike in Conshohocken.

"When my eyes can't catch something, they (surveillance cameras) will," employee Beth Ann Neuschwander said.

Neuschwander's eyes didn't catch the theft, but the cameras inside the store certainly did.

The video captured the two suspects walking into the store. The male suspect then went over to a pen full of puppies and began playing with them.

He then reached into the pen and grabbed the nine-week-old puppy named Marisa and held onto for a little bit before he stuffed it under his sweatshirt.

While the male suspect was snatching the puppy, Neuschwander says the female suspect was distracting her at the front desk.

Despite warnings posted throughout the store that your every move is being caught on surveillance video, the two thieves, without hesitation, still walked in and stole the puppy.

The cameras are perched throughout the store, giving police a clear view of the stealth puppy bandits.

It is the fourth dog stolen from Playful Pets store in the last two years, and Neuschwander says hopefully the last.

"We want the dog back, it's not fair," Neuschwander said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Plymouth Township Police Department.
