Stars At The Shore: Skylar Laine

Skylar Laine competed on the eleventh season of the hit reality TV competition, American Idol. The 18 year old from Brandon, Mississippi, made it into the Top 5 on the singing show and impressed the judges and viewers with her vocal talent. Currently, she is touring with her fellow contestants for the American Idol Live Tour 2012.

Before performing at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, Laine talked about the tour, musical influences and her career.

How are you adjusting to the 2012 American Idol Live Tour?

"We've adjusted pretty well. We only have tonight and three more shows in the United States and then we go to the Philippines but the bus is great, the tour has been great and the fans are great. It's been really fun."

What has it been like to interact with your fans while on tour?

"They always have good stuff to say— most of the time and seeing them scream your name every night is really fun."

Have you been able to do any sightseeing while you've been traveling?

"We have some days off. We can do whatever we want so those are fun days."

You competed on American Idol and are now touring--what are your plans after the tour?

"After the tour I'll be back in the studio and I'll be writing songs and hopefully in the next couple of months I'll find a label to call home. I'm not currently signed but we're working really hard towards it, being positive, writing a lot, working hard so hopefully I'll find a home and then start on an album."

Do you want to stick with country music?

"Oh, yes--definitely."

Who were some musical inspirations growing up?

"Growing up I was always a huge Marty Robbins and Waylon Jennings fan and now my idols are Justin Moore--he's amazing--and Miranda Lambert so those are my inspirations; and Dolly Parton was a huge inspiration when I was young."

Through this whole experience, has there been a 'wow' moment for you?

"All of it together! I can't pinpoint one specific thing because all of it together has been completely incredible."
