Boomer Esiason Says Eagles Are One Of The Top 6 Teams In The NFL

By Spike Eskin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Boomer Esiason believes the Eagles are one of the top teams in the NFL, and as many agree, he thinks the key is Michael Vick.

"I would just say to him: 'Please Michael, you gotta stay healthy, we need you on the football field. If he can make it through 16 games, Michael, you guys are a legitimate Super Bowl candidate, there is no question about that," Esiason told 94WIP's Michael Barkann and Ike Reese. Esiason, who appeared in four Pro Bowls as a member of the Bengals, is now a morning show host for WFAN in New York. "[The Eagles] are one of the top six teams in the NFL.'"

"What we have seen through the years, that the team that is healthiest with about five or six weeks left to go in the season, is the team that is going to go on and win the Super Bowl because the health combined with, really tempo, and getting into all of these games and winnings these games late in the year, is one way you will be propelled to that championship game," he said.

Though he does have questions to answer about his game, and whether he can stay healthy, Esiason said Vick has answered the call in another important area. "As far as proving himself and re---kind of---engaging himself in the NFL and in life, and everything, I'm one of his biggest supporters. I think that he has completely answered the bell, in that regard. Now we just got to keep him on the field," he said.

Esiason also thinks the team will rally around Andy Reid. "Any time you are playing for a coach who has had a death like Andy Reid has had in his family, it's the profound emotional inspirational aspect of the team that can't be discounted. So I would think, this team is going to go and wipe up the Browns this weekend, get off to a great start, feel good about itself, and should be a team that we are going to hear from late in the season as well," he said.
