Victim Of PHL Hoax Arrested In Dallas On Outstanding Warrant

By Crystal Cranmore, Elizabeth Hur

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The victim of a hoax that involved a Dallas-bound plane being recalled to Philadelphia International Airport Thursday morning was later arrested in Dallas.

According to court records, Christopher Shell has been arrested numerous times since 2001 for drug-related offenses and sources say when Shell landed in Dallas Thursday evening, he was arrested on an outstanding warrant for drug charges.

Earlier on Thursday, Shell was taken into police custody after the US Airways plane he was on was forced to return to PHL following an anonymous phone call to airport police.

Sources say the male caller told airport police, Shell was scheduled to fly to Texas between 8 and 10 a.m. and he had explosives.

Authorities would soon discover it was a hoax and the result of Shell's recent unpleasant breakup with his former girlfriend.

Sources say on Thursday, Shell's ex-girlfriend was questioned and released. Her current boyfriend was being held by federal authorities overnight and is expected to be charged as early as Friday.

Sources stress this investigation is continuing and it is possible more charges are filed in this case against at least one other person.
