Widener To Host Workshop On Sexuality And Aging

By Lynne Adkins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A local university is holding a daylong workshop on sexuality and the aging population.

The conference is being held at Widener University in Chester. Melanie Davis, co-director of the university's Sexuality and Aging Consortium says there will be workshops on supporting the sexual needs of older adults, protecting privacy issues and "HIV with joy and wrinkles. And the presenter is a member of our consortium who is bringing guests from a group she works with -- older women who are living long-term with HIV."

Davis says it's designed to help sex therapists, nurses, long term care staff and others information needed to help baby boomers continue a sexually active lifestyle.

"It behooves us to help them be safe, be healthy and also to work with the long term care facilities of all kinds and help them have policies in place that will respect the sexual rights of their older residents."

The event is September 14th from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. You can find out more at SexualityAndAging.com.
