Parents, Students Shop For Uniforms As New School Year Approaches

By Mark Abrams

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- For many parents and students, back to school shopping means buying uniforms and the accessories.

Flynn & O'Hara School Uniforms in Northeast Philadelphia is a hub of activity at this time of year as clerks fill orders for parents and students who attend a variety of parochial, charter and private schools in the region.

Besides his corporate headquarters and retail outlet in the Northeast, Sean Flynn, the company's president, says he's filling orders from 29 retail outlets across a few states.

And, in the Philadelphia area, he says business with the schools in the archdiocese has been brisk because of the transformations at the elementary and secondary level.

"A lot of the mergers we're doing also," Flynn says. "So it's a lot of work, a lot of new business, but it's also a whole lot of late business."

One mom, whose daughter is a senior at St. Hubert's High School, says it's a tradition to make this trip.

"Every year since she was in Kindergarten and they make it so good," she says. "It's nice and smooth."
