Nicetown CDC Announces Plans On Upcoming "Give Back Festival"

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Plans are in the works for this year's "Give Back Festival" taking place in August in the Nicetown section of the city.

The Nicetown Community Development Corporation will be celebrating its 10th anniversary of the Give Back Festival to take place in the park along the 43-hundred block of Germantown Avenue on August 10th and 11th.

"It's very important to show the community that you care," says Majeedah Rashid, the Chief Operating Officer of the Nicetown CDC.  "A lot of time over years, there has been a sense of distrust and people don't really believe because they haven't really seen anything consistent over time. So we've made it our business to make sure that we are consistent, show the love, and it reciprocates."

There will be a college fair, peace march, boxing competitions and live performances from acts like Billy Paul, Amazing Grace and the Delphonics.

Kenny Gambel and the sound of Philadelphia will be honored this year.
