Search Of Delaware River For Missing Boy Resumes Near Frenchtown, NJ

KINGWOOD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Rescue boats searching for a teen who disappeared while tubing on the Delaware River in northwestern New Jersey are reported to have been pulled from the water.

The Hunterdon Democrat newspaper reports boat crews were called off the river early this afternoon. Severe weather had forced authorities to temporarily suspend their search Wednesday.

There is no official word yet from Hunterdon County prosecutors on the status of the search.

Authorities say the teen and five other people were tubing Wednesday morning when the 16-year-old boy became separated from his tube. He tried to swim upstream to retrieve it but disappeared underwater.

A counselor waved down a bicyclist and used her phone to call 911.

Boat crews and divers searched the water but were ordered out before severe thunderstorms moved in.
