Infant Found Dead In Bensalem Motel Room

By Brad Segall

BENSALEM, Pa (CBS) -- Bensalem police were investigating the death of a 7-month-old infant found early Tuesday morning in a motel room along Route 1.

According to police, it was the baby boy's mother who called 9-1-1 to say her baby was unconscious. When police arrived they found the infant on the bed and they say it appeared he was already dead.

The child was taken to a local hospital. An autopsy was expected to be performed by the Philadelphia Medical Examiner on Wednesday. Bensalem Sergeant Andy Aninsman said initially the death was considered suspicious.

"The death of a 7-month-old obviously is always considered suspicious in the beginning until we can attempt to prove why an infant at that age would lose his life," said Aninsman.

He said the parents, both in their early twenties and from the Philadelphia area, were living in the motel room for several weeks with their two young children. Aninsman said they were cooperating with the investigation.

"We're trying to get everything in order," he said. "And, you know, we're trying to find out why this 7-month-old lost his life at such a young age."
