Phillies Try To Make It Two Straight Wins Over Colorado

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Phillies started their important ten-game homestand in style last night with a 7-2 win over the Rockies behind Cole Hamels.

Tonight the Phillies will go for a second-straight win behind right-hander Joe Blanton.  Blanton snapped out a funk in his last start as he went the distance in a 6-1 win over the Twins in Minnesota.  This will be Blanton's third career start against the Rockies.  In the first two he has gone 1-0 with a 5.23 ERA.  Overall here in 2012, Blanton is 6-6 with a 4.93 ERA.

Colorado's starting pitching struggles continued last night as left-hander Josh Outman allowed the first four Phillies runs in 4 1/3 innings to fall to 0-3 this season.  In a glimpse into how bad the pitching has been for the Rockies, last night's performance actually lowered Outman's ERA from 8.44 to 8.41.

Tonight the Rockies go with 23-year-old right-hander Alex White.  He is 2-5 with a 5.56 ERA and he has never faced the Phillies.

A bright spot for the Phillies in the last week has been the hot bat of John Mayberry.  In his last five games, Mayberry is hitting .381 with 4 home runs, 2 doubles and 10 runs batted in.
