Donations Being Taken For Deliberately Starved Dog Found In Chester Basement

MEDIA, Pa. (CBS) – The Delaware County SPCA is looking for donations for the care of an extremely malnourished dog that was found in a Chester home last week.

The 3-year-old female pit bull mix, now named Precious, was found in a flea and feces infested basement inside the Chester home after a hot water heater in the basement burst. Repair workers found the emaciated dog—who weighed only 19 pounds—amidst the debris, and called 911, who then reported it to the Delco SPCA.

After an investigation, Precious' former owner was cited with two animal cruelty offenses: failure to provide sustenance and failure to provide veterinary care on Thursday afternoon. The SPCA determined that Precious was deliberately starved and neglected. It was also reported by witnesses that Precious had a mother that was the victim of the same neglect and died in the owner's basement a couple years ago.

SPCA workers are calling this case one of the worst they've seen. Precious is currently in critical condition and cannot hold her head up or walk. She's recovering at the Delco SPCA Adoption Center and is receiving round-the-clock care, including fluids and a regimented diet.

Anyone interested in donating to Precious' care can donate at http://delcospca.org/donations/ or by sending a check to the Delco SPCA at 555 Sandy Bank Road in Media, PA 19063. Checks can be made out to the Delaware County SPCA, with a note that the funds are for Precious' care.
