Radnor Police Searching For Home Invasion Suspects

By Brad Segall and Robin Rieger

RADNOR, Pa. (CBS) -- Police in Radnor (Delaware County) are investigating a violent home invasion overnight in the Rosemont section of the township.

Police say a dentist and his family returned to their home in the 100 block of Brooklea Road around 11:30 p.m. last night, and that's when they were accosted by three men brandishing handguns.

The couple and their daughter were forced into the home and tied up. Police say the wife and daughter were taken into separate rooms before all three were taken to the basement.

"He asked me 'Where is the money, and I said 'I put some money in the safe and it's all yours,'" said the dentist, whose identity we are protecting.

Police say the dentist's wife gave the suspects the combination to the safe to take the money. Then the victims were forced to watch as the suspects ransacked the house, stealing cash and jewelry.

The victims managed to free themselves and went to a neighbor for help.

Radnor acting lieutenant Andy Block says police are looking into whether this is related to a similar crime in late April.

"We're going to confer with Haverford Township police to see exactly what evidence and what the MO was on their incident," he tells KYW Newsradio, "so there's a possibility. We're not ruling it in or ruling out at this point."

Police believe the family was targeted because they are of Asian descent.

There have been a number of incidents involving Asian business owners in the Philadelphia area over the last several months. The homeowner is a dentist with offices in Philadelphia and Coatesville.

Police say the suspects are black males and were wearing face masks and baseball caps.

So far, no arrests have been made.
