PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Snow White and the Huntsman, the fairytale thriller starring Charlize Theron and Kristin Stewart, totaled an estimated $56 million on its debut weekend, earning it a first-place box office finish.
That dropped last weekend's ticket-selling leader, Men in Black 3, to second place with $29 million, which pushed it over the $100 million mark.
Third place went to the blockbuster, The Avengers, with another $20 million, still going strong, its cumulative take over the $550 million mark.
Rounding out the top five were holdovers Battleship and The Dictator, with $5 million each.
The weekend's other new attraction, the faith-based action drama, For Greater Glory, with Andy Garcia, took in just under $2 million, placing it tenth.
Overall, industry-wide totals were down from those of a year ago for the third straight weekend.
