Bike Race, Roots Picnic, Phillies Make For A Busy Day On Roads Downtown

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Philadelphia International Cycling Championship is causing a number of road closures and SEPTA detours today.

If you plan on traveling near Manayunk, the Art Museum or in Center City, beware of traffic snarls. Philadelphia police have issued a traffic advisory noting the closure of several streets, including sections of Ridge Avenue, Main Street in Manayunk and the entire length of Kelly Drive.

These closures are having an impact on SEPTA routes beginning at 6 a.m., says spokesman Andrew Busch.

"Fourteen bus routes will be on detour before and during the race. We'll get service back as soon as possible after the race."

Busch says SEPTA will have extra regional rail service on the Manayunk-Norristown regional rail line.

"That's to get people to and from the race. The best station for people to use would be the Manayunk station."

The Martin Luther King Drive is closed for recreation and Penn's Landing is the home of the Roots Picnic which will snarl traffic along Columbus Boulevard as well. And with the Phillies game at home at 1:35 p.m., give yourself plenty of time to get where you are going.
