Drexel Hill Mom Arrested For Hitting Son In Head With Bat

By Brad Segall

DREXEL HILL, Pa (CBS) -- A Drexel Hill mother was released on bail after being arrested for knocking her teenage son unconscious with a baseball bat during an argument.

Upper Darby police were called to the 25-hundred block of Hillcrest Road where they arrested Kerry Marchesani and charged her with simple assault and harassment.

Police say the 50-year-old woman got into an argument with her son's friend and allegedly punched him. According to Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood, when her 17-year-old son came to his defense, Marchesani hit him with the bat.

"Sometimes discipline goes a little too far," said Chitwood. "It's not mother-son love, it's not tough love, it turns out to be criminal love."

Chitwood said the mom apparently had been drinking and will undergo psychiatric and drug and alcohol evaluations. He said the son was treated for head injuries and is expected to be okay.

Marchesani is expected back in court next week for a preliminary hearing.
