Bucks Music Teacher, Retiring After 35 Years, Gets a 'Mr. Holland' Farewell

By Brad Segall

DOYLESTOWN, Pa.  (CBS) -- The Central Bucks School District is bidding farewell to a popular music teacher who taught thousands of students, including some who went on to fame of their own in various ways.

Scott Teschner spent 35 years in the district, 25 of them as choir director at Central Bucks East High School.  Nearly three hundred students, their families, teachers, and alumni came out over the weekend for a surprise farewell concert to pay homage to his talent and devotion.

Among the performers was "American Idol" runner-up Justin Guarini, who graduated from CB East fifteen years ago.

"He is an amazing teacher who has touched a lot of people's lives, and I can say personally he has been one of the keys to my success in the music industry," Guarini told KYW Newsradio today.

Teschner also taught Evan Powell of the Tufts University Beelzebubs (the voices of the Warblers on the hit TV show "Glee"), and Bryan Scott of the Buffalo Bills football team.

Some of his students said they looked up to him as a father figure and mentor.  Teschner says he's been fortunate to live his dream in one of the best high schools in America.
