By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Phillies will give the ball to Joe Blanton tonight as they look for a second straight win in New York against the Mets.
The Phillies opened this series on Memorial Day afternoon with an 8-4 win behind Cole Hamels. The win was the Phillies fifth in their last six games.
As for Blanton, he has thrown the ball pretty well in his career against the Metropolitans -- 3-1 in ten starts with a 3.71 ERA.
Here in 2012, Blanton is 4-4 with a 4.55 ERA. The righthander's been hit around in his last two appearances, allowing 13 earned runs and an alarming 6 home runs in 8 2/3 innings against the Red Sox (loss) and Cardinals (no decision).
Blanton's mound opponent tonight will be young Jeremy Hefner. The 26-year-old righthander has made three appearances for the Mets as a rookie this season (1 start), going 0-1 with a 6.17 ERA. This will be the Phillies first look at him.
