Sarge Pens A New Book, Likely To Be Controversial With Phils Fans

By Paul Kurtz

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Phillies broadcaster Gary Matthews is also an author. And he's making the rounds with his latest offering.

It's a topic that's bound to spark lots of debate: name the five greatest Phillies at each position. Gary Matthews delved deep into the archives to come up with his third book, Few And Chosen.

"There are some great choices on there where you'd think are automatic and then there are some choices that are up for debate. I went back as far as Grover Alexander to make sure I didn't leave guys out that were really worthy."

Three of his number one infielders are still active: "Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard."

Matthews was a pretty fair leftfielder in his days with the Phils, so would he include himself?

"You kidding me? I wasn't going to go there.  I didn't even think about trying to have myself in left field. Oh, no, no, no."
