Temple University Names New Acting President

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Temple University has named an acting president as it continues to search for a replacement for its departing leader.

Trustees announced Wednesday that Temple Provost Richard Englert will lead the Philadelphia university beginning July 1.

Englert succeeds Ann Weaver Hart, who has been Temple's president since 2006. She plans to step down June 30 to become the president of the University of Arizona.

A search committee has spent about seven months looking for Hart's replacement. University officials expect the group to complete the search in the coming months.

Trustees say they'll ratify Englert's appointment at a meeting on June 21. Englert has served in several positions at Temple since 1976.
