CBS Philly's 'Star Spangled Summer' Returns

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – CBS Philly, the Philadelphia market's largest media voice, had a great time last summer flying the red, white and blue, so we're unfurling the flag again in 2012.

All seven of the CBS stations locally – CBS 3, The CW Philly 57, KYW Newsradio 1060, Talk Radio 1210AM WPHT, 98.1 WOGL, SportsRadio 94 WIP, SportsRadio 610 WIP -- along with CBSPhilly.com, are teaming up to celebrate the flag through news stories, special events, programming and public service announcements from Memorial Day, May 28th through Labor Day, September 3rd. The stations will dedicate significant airtime to encourage families, neighborhoods and businesses throughout our region to display the American Flag during one of the most patriotic times of the year.

CBSPhilly.com will launch a special Star Spangled Summer section this weekend at www.CBSPhilly.com/StarSpangledSummer complete with the history of Old Glory, information about how the flag should be displayed, a list of local patriotic events this summer and fascinating flag trivia.

CBS 3 and The CW Philly will also showcase neighborhood flag displays throughout the Delaware and Lehigh Valleys on-air, distribute flags and promote holiday activities. The CBS Radio stations will join the campaign by supporting it on-air and distributing flags at their outdoor events all summer as well. The stations will also participate in the City of Philadelphia's official Flag Day ceremonies on June 14th at the Betsy Ross House and help host Flag Fest 2012, the City's most patriotic festival with free family events every day from June 10th through the 15th, culminating with Stars & Stripes Saturday on June 16th, a daylong celebration of Old Glory.
