NJ Man Convicted Of Traveling To Rhode Island To Have Sex With Supposed 8-Year-Old

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A New Jersey man accused of traveling to Rhode Island to have sex with a girl he thought was 8 years old has been convicted on federal charges including interstate travel to engage in sex with a minor.

A jury convicted Donald Jones III of Pemberton, N.J., in federal court in Providence on Tuesday. Jones was also convicted of enticement of a minor, aggravated sexual assault and child pornography. Prosecutors say he faces a mandatory life sentence.

Jones was arrested in Providence last year after prosecutors say he had been in contact over the Internet with an undercover federal agent posing as the father of the girl, who did not exist.

Prosecutors say Jones is registered as a sex offender in New Jersey.

His sentencing is scheduled for September.
