Officer Injured In Scuffle With Suspect In Northeast Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A Philadelphia police officer suffered minor injuries after an altercation with a suspect in Northeast Philadelphia early Tuesday morning.

The incident happened at about 3:00 a.m. in the 9900 block of Bustleton Avenue in the city's Bustleton section.

According to investigators, the incident began when the suspect, who appeared to be on drugs, began running in and out of traffic on Bustleton Avenue.

Authorities say when officers approached, the suspect jumped on one officer and tried to get inside a police cruiser.

The suspect resisted and a scuffle ensued between the officers and the unidentified suspect. Eventually the officers were forced to taser the suspect.

During the scuffle, one officer suffered a sprained wrist. He was taken to Jeanes Hospital where he was treated and released.

The suspect is in police custody.

The incident remains under police investigation.
