School Bus Gets Into Accident After Freshman Class Trip To Dorney Park

LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) - Thirteen students and a parent were reportedly injured in a school bus crash Friday evening after a trip to Dorney Park.

The accident happened at about 6 p.m. on Hamilton Boulevard near Interstate 78 in Lower Macungie Township. Just before heading onto the highway, the bus reportedly side swiped a car, then struck a light pole.

The bus, which was among several chartered through the Levy Bus Company for the trip, was carrying students from Pennridge High School in Perkasie, Bucks County and was leaving Dorney Park after a freshman class trip, according to school officials.

School officials also say those injured were taken to either Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest or St. Luke's in Allentown for non-life-threatening injuries.

"One girl had a pretty good bump on her head," said Dr. Thomas Creeden, the principal at Pennridge High School. "We're fortunate the injuries do not appear to be serious."

At about 9:30 p.m., school officials say two students were released from the hospital. The remaining 11 were awaiting MRI testing.

The accident is under investigation.
