PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police are investigating the death of a woman who was found inside her home by a family member Tuesday night.

The grim discovery was made by the victim's sister who had gone to the victim's home along the 2200 block of North Gratz Street near Susquehanna Avenue in North Philadelphia.

According to investigators, the victim's sister had not heard from her sibling all day on Tuesday and became worried. When she went to her sister's house, she found her dead on the couch.

Investigators say the 52-year-old victim, identified by police as Lavonne Thrones-Johnson, was beaten and died of blunt force trauma to the head. It was not immediately known how long the victim had been dead.

An autopsy is planned for Wednesday.

Detectives say a suspected murder weapon was recovered at the crime scene. Investigators also said there were no signs of forced entry into the home.

So far, no arrests have been made.

The death remains under investigation.
