Newark Woman Killed By Hit-Run Driver Identified

NEWARK, Del. (CBS) – An elderly woman struck by a hit-and-run driver in Delaware on Monday night has been identified by police.

The victim, 76-year-old Helen Yang, of the 300 block of E. Main Street in Newark, was crossing the street around 8:38 p.m. at Library Avenue from the direction of the College Square Shopping Center when she was struck by a southbound vehicle.

The car hit Yang and kept on driving, officials said. Though several passersby tried to help the injured woman, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have information that the speeding car that struck Yang was a Honda and are searching for a 4-door dark-colored Accord with damage to its front end and right side near the passenger mirror. Anyone with information should call 800-TIP-3333 or Cpl. Thomas Smith of the Newark Police Traffic Unit at 366-7111.
