Crash Involving State Trooper Injures Two People

DELAWARE (CBS) – Delaware officials are investigating a Friday afternoon car accident that injured two.

On Friday around 4:15 p.m., Jeffrey C. Johnson, 55, was driving a 1998 Ford Expedition and was stopped in a crossover attempting to cross the southbound lanes of US Rt. 113 in order to turn onto Sheep Pen Road. As Johnson entered the southbound left hand lane, the right side of his vehicle was struck by a 2007 Dodge Charger patrol vehicle, which was traveling south on US Rt. 113 and was operated by a 27-year-old Delaware State Trooper. After the impact, both vehicles spun in the road and came to rest.

Johnson was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released for his injuries. The Delaware State Trooper was taken by helicopter to Beebe Medical Center, where he was also treated and released.

The southbound lanes of US Rt 113 were closed for approximately two hours after the crash, which remains under investigation.
