Brian Dawkins Has Retired As An Eagle

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A tearful Brian Dawkins called it a career Saturday, retiring from a 16 year NFL career. He signed a one-day contract to go out as an Eagle.

For 13 years in Philadelphia, #20 put his body on the line, gave blood, sweat and tears for the fans and his teammates.

"I know shedding tears because I'm thinking back and reminiscing, but this is a happy time for me. Do not get that wrong. I chose to walk out the way that I'm walking out."

And that's with his health.

Teammate Jeremiah Trotter says Dawkins is was is special, on and off the field.

"He did all the things the right way, the way he was supposed to be a hall of famer."

Eagles owner Jeffery Laurie says Dawkins number will be retired at a ceremony before the Giants game on September 30th.
