Archery Range Owner Says Business Is Booming, But Not Because Of 'Hunger Games'

By John Ostapkovich

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The movie The Hunger Games has struck Hollywood gold and some say it's done wonders for the sport of archery too. But the owner of an archery range in the Northeast sees other factors at work.

The Hunger Games' heroine Katniss is an ace with a bow. Bill Arrow, of B&A Archery in Holmesburg, says the sport is hot, hot, hot, but in his view there's no link. So why the surge?

"The thrill of shooting. It's a very relaxing sport. Say that you were working all day. You get hyped up over something. You can come down to the range and shoot and it just relaxing."

A lot of B&A's customers are also bowhunters, so the 5,000 square foot range is like the forest, only less-so.

"I have the range lined with three-dimensional rubber targets, so you can actually shoot them.  You're not hurting anybody or any animals."

He says it'll cost close to $300 dollars for a good bow package but there are advances that make it so almost anyone can nock the arrow and pull back the string.
