14-Year-Old Charged After Driving Into New Castle County Home

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) - A 14-year-old boy was charged with careless driving after crashing an SUV into his New Castle County home Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Authorities say at about 1:30 p.m., the unidentified boy slammed a GMC Yukon into the front of his home in the unit block of Freedom Trail in New Castle.

Investigators say the boy entered the vehicle and attempted to back it out of the driveway when he discovered a car traveling toward him on Freedom Trail. The boy then put the vehicle in drive and accelerated, losing control of the SUV before driving across the front lawn and hitting the home, police said.

The teenager and a family member who was inside the residence at the time were not injured. A New Castle County building inspector responded to the scene and determined the home was unfit for habitation due to the structural damage. The family was relocated.
