Philly Soccer Show: Season's First Win For the Union

By Greg Orlandini

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Philadelphia Union put one in the win column for the first time this year, with a 1-0 victory over the Columbus Crew (see game story), and the KYW Philly Soccer Show talks with one of the keys to that victory.

In Part 1, KYW's Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch are joined by defender Sheanon Williams.

Williams, who is the Philly Soccer Page player of the week, had a standout game. With an injury to captain Danny Califf, Sheanon played as a center back instead of his usual right back, shutting down Crew forward Aaron Schoenfeld.

In Part 2, we break down the win against the Crew.

The Union saw great midfield play from Michael Farfan and Gabriel Gomez, with Keon Daniel and Freddy Adu also having solid games.

But forward Lionard Pajoy struggled in front of the net and was unable to put away any of his many chances in the game.

Gomez provided the only goal, a first-half penalty kick that he converted with stylish chip.  The Union also brought a new player, forward/midfielder Kai Herdling, on a loan deal from German team Hoffenheim 1899.  Herdling has played mainly for Hoffenheim's reserve team in the German second division.
