Philadelphia 'A City In Pain' As Thousands Mourn Fallen Firefighters
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Mayor Michael Nutter says Philadelphia is "a city in pain" because of the loss of two firefighters killed while battling a massive warehouse blaze earlier in the week.
Hundreds of uniformed firefighters and others gathered Saturday for services for 60-year-old Lt. Robert Neary and 25-year-old firefighter Daniel Sweeney.
They were killed Monday when a wall collapsed as they inspected a building adjacent to the burning warehouse. The cause of the blaze has not been determined.
A viewing and funeral Mass have been held at Saint Cecelia Church in northeast Philadelphia for Sweeney, and the Saturday service was broadcast for those outside.
A motorcade of fire trucks and mourners then escorted his body to burial at a cemetery. Viewings and a memorial were scheduled later for Neary.
