Police Link North Carolina Woman's Death To Camden County Murder-Suicide

By Kim Glovas

VOORHEES, N.J. (CBS) -- Authorities in Camden County and Cumberland County, North Carolina are working together on a murder investigation that started in one state and ended in the other.

The murder of a woman in Fayetteville, NC, may be connected to the murder-suicide of two doctors Wednesday afternoon.

The body of 35-year-old Shawna Givens was found inside of her apartment in Fayetteville, Wednesday morning. Camden County Prosecutor's spokesman Jason Laughlin says Givens was romantically involved with the doctor who committed suicide Wednesday afternoon in Voorhees. (see related story)

"We know that Shawna Givens was in Philadelphia as recently as Sunday. It appears she was the girlfriend of Gioconda Navek, who was a doctor from this area and committed suicide apparently after shooting a fellow doctor, Payman Houshmandpour."

Laughlin says detectives seized Navek's vehicle, and evidence from the car led then to Givens.

Laughlin says it's uncertain exactly what led to Navek's actions, but he did say that events in the doctor's personal life had been turbulent.
