Child Killed, 4 People Hurt In South New Jersey House Fire
BRIDGETON, N.J. (AP) — Authorities believe a teenage girl spending the night at a friend's house was the person killed in a southern New Jersey house fire that injured four other people.
Bridgeton police say the fire, reported around 3:15 a.m., produced heavy flames and thick smoke that initially prevented emergency responders from entering the home. The body was found around 7:30 a.m., and officials believe it's that of a 13-year-old Quinton
Township girl, though a formal identification had not been made as of Monday afternoon.
The child's 13-year-old friend was among the four people hurt in the fire. The girl, her parents and her 12-year-old brother were all hospitalized with undisclosed injuries, though none were considered life-threatening.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but authorities say it's not considered suspicious.
