Firefighters Battle Brush Fire In Ocean County

By Crystal Cranmore

LACEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) - Fire officials are battling a brush fire in Ocean County Thursday afternoon.

It's unclear when the fire started, but firefighters arrived in the 200 block of Marina Plaza in the Forked River section of Lacey Township at about 3 p.m., and have since been trying to contain the blaze. As of this time, authorities say six acres of land are affected and 80 percent of the fire is contained.

No evacuations have been ordered; there are homes in the area, but authorities say no one was home at the time of the fire.

How the fire started is not known although there is speculation that it started on a docked boat, then spread into the park and woods. Authorities are looking into that as a possibility.

Rick's Marina is directly across the street from the fire, but at this time authorities say it does not appear to be in danger.

No injuries were reported. Fire officials are investigating.
