Wednesday means we profile another place to play, and today we venture into northern Maryland for a spin around Chesapeake Bay Golf Club.

Chesapeake Bay’s two courses — North East and Rising Sun — are within minutes of each other, making for a fun two-fer if you are so inclined.  Today, though, we focus on the 18 holes that are carved out of the dense woods at North East.  The setting is beautiful… quiet… peaceful.   But the course has some bite, especially if you tend to spray the ball.   Straight is good here.  And you’d better have confidence in your putting.  These greens can be very, very challenging.

 Ed’s Scouting Report:

Green Fees:   In-season rates kick in today, and range from a high of $59, to $39 weekends after 11a with a Victory Golf Pass, to a $25 twilight fee.

Best Hole:   For me, it is the one highest in fun factor:  the short par 4 8th.  At only 265 from the white tees, it is driveable for many, but you have to take on quite a bit of risk to reap that reward.   Stray right and you’re dead… and balls that almost make it run the risk of a wacky bounce off the railroad ties that ring the right side of the green.  It is also no easy up-and-in from the 8′ deep waste bunker.  There are countless ways to play this hole and that’s what makes it especially interesting.

Local Knowledge: Crabcakes.    And you thought I was going to give you some course strategy.  Get serious.    I’m caddying for you in the restaurant.   Crab cakes.   You can thank me later.
