'Titans'' Wrath No Match For 'Hunger Games'

By Bill Wine

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It was another busy weekend at multiplexes.

To no one's surprise, The Hunger Games continued to eat up the competition. The runaway science fiction epic finished in first place at the box office for a second straight weekend by earning an estimated $61-million in its second weekend of release.

The weekend's two new attractions performed respectably in the next two spots. The action-adventure sequel, Wrath of the Titans, placed second with a solid opening weekend take of $34-million. And the Snow White comedy, Mirror Mirror, starring Julia Roberts as the wicked Queen, was third with $19-million.

Continuing to do brisk business was the holdover comedy, 21 Jump Street, which took in another $15-million, good for fourth place.

Overall, with The Hunger Games marching on, it was another big weekend for the industry, as the blockbuster pushed its cumulative total over the $250-million mark in only ten days.
