Kids Volunteer To Help Other Kids Read At Bellmawr Library Branch

By Lynne Adkins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Teens are teaming up with younger children to share a love of reading.

The Book Buddies program matches a group of children in kindergarten through third grade with a couple of older readers, usually 5th grade and up. Barbara Ayes, the young adult librarian at the Bellmawr Branch of the Camden County Library, says everyone has a great time plus the readers get some extra credit.

"I give community service hours for each session that they attend which they can use for when they go for honor roll or writing a college acceptance letter or just the satisfaction that they shared their love of reading with a younger child."

She adds that readers are always needed at all branches and you can find out more at 856-931-1400.
