Fugitive Safe Surrender Program To Conduct Its Final Operation In New Jersey

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) - The Fugitive Safe Surrender program will conduct its fourth and final operation in New Jersey in a few weeks. It'll be based in Atlantic City, but will welcome non-violent offenders from just about anywhere who want to put their violations behind them.

The idea here is for people with outstanding warrants to turn themselves in without embarrassment, or a potential confrontation with a cop on the street.

"The overwhelming majority of people that come to the program will be released on the same day. There's no guarantee you'll be released, but I think of the 10 thousand people that have been through the program in the past, less than one half of one percent have not been released the same day to go home," said New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey Chisea.

This session starts April 21st at the Grace Assembly of God Church on Atlantic Avenue in Atlantic City. They take Sunday off, then pick up again from the 23rd through the 25th, 9 to 4 each day. As long as the violation occurred in New Jersey, it doesn't matter where you live now, as long as you're a US citizen.
