Philadelphia Police Officers Suffer Minor Injuries During Scuffle In Mantua

By Steve Beck

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Three Philadelphia police officers suffered minor injuries when an argument between a tow truck driver and the owner of a car being towed got out of hand.

The incident happened shortly after midnight at 40th and Aspen Streets in the city's Mantua section.

According to investigators, the situation began as an argument between a Philadelphia Parking Authority tow truck driver and a man whose car was getting towed.

The car was being towed under Philadelphia's "Live Stop" program, which removes unregistered vehicles or the vehicles of unlicensed drivers off the streets.

According to police, the driver in this incident did not have paperwork to legally operate the vehicle.

Police say the driver made a phone and several other individuals showed up at the scene. The tow truck driver then called police. When officers arrived, an altercation occurred and three officers suffered minor injuries.

All three officers did not require admittance to the hospital and are in fair condition.

Police say three people were taken into custody.
