Delaware Police Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting

LAUREL, Del. (AP) — Delaware State Police are investigating a non-fatal shooting involving a Laurel police officer.

Police say it happened Friday night, when the driver of a stolen Chevrolet Suburban accelerated the car toward an officer who had tried to make a traffic stop.

Police say the driver sped away when the officer tried to conduct the stop and rammed the car into the police vehicle while the officer was inside.

The officer's shots struck the car's front and passenger side, but the driver kept going before crashing into a tree and fence and running away. The driver remained at large Saturday. The car's passenger was found but has not been charged.

Police say the car was reported stolen from New Jersey.

The officer has been placed on administrative duty per standard procedure.
